Gavin Carter is UBM Global Trade’s Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President of UBM Global Trade's subsidiary, PIERS, the authoritative source for U.S. waterborne import-export trade information and business intelligence solutions for the maritime industry and commercial sectors.
Gavin Carter joined UBM Global Trade in 2009, he is directly responsible for overseeing and leading the PIERS subsidiary, and as CIO he is responsible for the strategic planning and further development of Global Trade’s technical products, operations and infrastructure company-wide.
Gavin has been part of the UBM Group since 2000, holding a number of positions across the global business media company.
Prior to joining UBM Global Trade, Gavin was CIO of sister company CMPMedica US. At CMPMedica, he had responsibility for all IT operations and played the lead role in creating back office functions for what was a newly separated division. As part of a wider business restructure, Gavin was instrumental in moving CME, a significant business unit, from California to New Jersey. In 2008, he cut operational IT costs by over 30 percent and was influential in delivering change that doubled operating margins.
Gavin began his career at UBM’s London headquarters, where as Group Financial Systems Analyst he designed and deployed systems for UBM’s management and statutory financial reporting.
In 2005, he assumed the position of IT Programme Manager at CMP Information. Gavin spearheaded a major infrastructure investment, which exceeded targets and culminated in the successful migration of CMPi’s primary operational Data Centre. In this role Gavin was also heavily involved with many off-shore development initiatives.
Seen as an IT visionary, he has a track record of delivering challenging multi-million dollar projects that drive business benefit through cultural and strategic transformation.
Gavin studied Software Engineering at Oxford Brookes University in England.
